MSO6204HDP | Lab-Grade 2 GHz 4-Channel 12-Bit Mixed Signal Oscilloscope

Overview

The MSO6204HDP is a lab-grade 2 GHz, 4-channel mixed signal oscilloscope built on a native 12-bit ADC, with up to 10 GSa/s real-time sampling, up to 1 Gpts of memory and a 50 Ω rise time of ≤ 210 ps (typical). Waveform capture runs at 800,000 wfms/s, or 2,000,000 wfms/s in sequence mode, on a 12.1-inch 1280 × 800 capacitive touchscreen.

It is the top of the MSO6000HDP series, aimed at benches that move between high-speed digital, embedded and power work. The 50 Ω path carries the full 2 GHz for clock and serial-link measurements; the 1 MΩ path is specified to 500 MHz for probing rails, gate drives and control loops. Jitter and eye-diagram analysis, USB 2.0 and Ethernet compliance tests, power analysis and timing analysis are available as options on the same instrument.

Sixteen digital channels, a digital voltmeter, a 7-digit frequency counter and a 10 Mpts FFT are built in. Protocol decoding covers RS232/422/485/UART, I²C, SPI and I³C as standard, with automotive, audio, MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 429, Manchester and 1-Wire decoders as options. Backed by the 3+2 warranty.

Detailed Features

Native 12-Bit Resolution

The 12-bit ADC quantises each acquisition into 4,096 levels, 16 times the resolution of an 8-bit front end. Small ripple on a rail, the settling tail of a step response or a low-level signal riding on a larger one stays visible without a separate high-resolution mode, and the resolution is present at the full capture rate.

Where bandwidth can be traded for resolution, ERES adds 1 to 4 enhanced bits, up to 16 bits in total. Vertical scale runs from 500 μV/div to 10 V/div at 1 MΩ and 500 μV/div to 1 V/div at 50 Ω.

All-in-One Measurement Platform

The MSO6000HDP combines an oscilloscope, 16-channel logic analyzer, spectrum analysis, digital voltmeter, 7-digit frequency counter and protocol analyzer as standard, with a dual-channel function/arbitrary waveform generator, Bode plot analyzer, power analyzer, timing analyzer and jitter tools as options, all on the same screen and timebase.

Options install by license file from a USB drive, so capability can be added to an instrument already on the bench.

800,000 Waveforms per Second

Ultra Phosphor 3.0 processes acquisitions through a parallel graphics-mapping pipeline at 800,000 wfms/s, with 256 intensity levels so frequent and rare events read differently on screen. In sequence mode the capture rate rises to 2,000,000 wfms/s, with a minimum trigger interval under 500 ns.

Hardware waveform recording keeps up to 400,000 frames for frame-by-frame or continuous playback, with measurements and math available on the recorded data, and the frames can be exported to USB storage.

Search marks each matching event across the record.

Deep Memory with Search and Navigation

Memory depth reaches 500 Mpts per channel with all four channels enabled and 1 Gpts on a single channel, enough to hold long bursts at a high sample rate. Search marks every edge, pulse width, runt, timeout, setup-and-hold or pattern event that meets your criteria across the full record.

Results appear as an event list; select an entry to jump to it, or step through events, time positions and markers with the navigation controls.

× MSO6204HDP search and navigation across a long acquisition Search marks each matching event across the record.

Protocol Trigger and Decode

RS232/422/485/UART, I²C, SPI and I³C trigger and decode are standard. Options add CAN, CAN-FD, CAN-XL, LIN, FlexRay and SENT for automotive work, audio buses (I²S, left-justified, right-justified, TDM), MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC 429 for avionics buses, Manchester and 1-Wire — 15 protocols in all.

Up to four buses decode at once, from analog or digital channels, and a parallel bus of up to 18 bits can combine both. Decoding works while stopped or recording, with an event list, search and CSV, HTML or PDF export.

Mixed Signal Debugging

Sixteen digital channels are built into every MSO6000HDP and are enabled by the UT-M15 logic analyzer probe (sold separately). They sample at 1.25 GSa/s with up to 500 Mpts of memory, detect pulses down to 5 ns and accept thresholds from TTL to LVDS or a custom level.

Digital channels trigger, decode and measure alongside the analog channels, so a firmware state change can be lined up against the analog event it caused.

Power Analysis (Optional)

The MSO6000HDP-PWR option adds twelve power measurements: power quality, harmonics, inrush current, RDS(on), switching loss, slew rate, safe operating area, modulation, ripple, turn-on/turn-off time, transient response and efficiency.

Connect voltage and current probes to the stage under test, select the analysis, assign the channels and read the results. With the MSO6000HDP-GEN option, the Bode plot function adds control-loop and PSRR measurement from 50 Hz to 50 MHz.

Jitter and Eye Diagram (Optional)

The MSO6000HDP-JITTER option measures TIE, total jitter at a set BER, random, deterministic, periodic, data-dependent and duty-cycle-distortion jitter, with TIE histogram, trend and spectrum views and a bathtub curve.

Hardware-accelerated eye diagrams report eye height, eye width, amplitude, Q-factor and crossing ratio, with clock recovery by fixed frequency or first- or second-order PLL.

× MSO6204HDP eye diagram with TIE histogram and bathtub curve Eye diagram, bathtub curve, TIE histogram and TIE trend.

Compliance Testing (Optional)

Compliance options run automated USB 2.0 (MSO6000HDP-CTSUSB20), 100BASE-TX (MSO6000HDP-CTS100) and 1000BASE-T (MSO6000HDP-CTS1000) Ethernet tests with the matching test fixtures. The software shows the connection to the device under test, configures the oscilloscope for each test item and generates a report with results, pass/fail status, margins and waveform images.

Single or multiple test items can be run, and custom limits can be applied alongside the standard ones.

Timing Analysis (Optional)

The MSO6000HDP-TIMING option checks bus timing on I²C, SPI, CAN, I²S, UART and LIN, plus reset and switch sequences: pulse width, amplitude, edge timing, rise time, setup and hold.

Each parameter is compared against its limit and the results export as a report.

Measurements and Statistics

56 automated measurements cover voltage, time, area, burst, delay and phase. 27 can be on screen at once, and each one can show statistics as a histogram or a trend chart, so drift and outliers are visible without exporting data.

A measurement snapshot shows 39 parameters for one channel, and precision mode measures across the full memory in hardware rather than the screen record.

× MSO6204HDP measurement statistics with frequency trend plot Measurement statistics with a trend plot.

Area Trigger, Mask Test and Histograms

Draw up to two rectangles on the touchscreen and the area trigger keeps only waveforms that cross, or avoid, those zones, which isolates an intermittent glitch without building a complex trigger. The standard trigger set adds edge, pulse width, video, slope, runt, window, delay, timeout, duration, setup and hold, Nth edge and pattern.

Hardware-accelerated mask testing runs pass/fail against a template in seconds and can stop, sound the buzzer or save a screenshot on failure. Vertical and horizontal histograms quantify noise and jitter distributions.

Spectrum Analysis

The FFT runs up to 10 Mpts on all four channels, with Hanning, Hamming, rectangular, Blackman and flat-top windows, a waterfall view, normal, average, max-hold and min-hold traces and automatic, manual or threshold markers.

Start, stop, center and span are set directly in frequency, so harmonics, switching noise and EMI sources can be examined without leaving the time-domain view.

× MSO6204HDP FFT spectrum alongside time-domain waveform Time and frequency domain on one screen.

Touchscreen, Keys and Remote Control

The 12.1-inch 1280 × 800 capacitive touchscreen is fully laminated and supports tap, drag, pinch and box-zoom gestures, while dedicated keys and knobs stay on the front panel. A USB mouse and keyboard also work, and autoset settles unknown signals within 1.5 seconds across all channels.

For automation, the instrument accepts SCPI over LAN or USB, runs a built-in web server for browser control from a PC or phone, and works with the free UNI-T Instrument Manager. Firmware updates install from a USB drive or online.
