UT-P07B 500 MHz 10:1 General Purpose Oscilloscope Probe
Overview
The UT-P07B is a 500 MHz, 10:1 passive oscilloscope probe for general-purpose measurement on oscilloscopes with a 1 MΩ input. It presents 10 MΩ and 12 pF at the tip, compensates inputs from 9 pF to 54 pF, and is rated 300 V RMS CAT II.
A replaceable 0.5 mm needle tip, a sprung hook, a ground spring needle and an alligator ground lead cover the usual ways of reaching a test point, and the 1.2 m cable weighs 40 g at the probe head.
Key Features
- 500 MHz bandwidth — DC to 500 MHz at −3 dB.
- 10:1 attenuation, 10 MΩ / 12 pF — light loading on the circuit under test; the probe signals ×10 to scopes with a readout pin.
- 9–54 pF compensation range — matches the input capacitance of most 1 MΩ oscilloscope inputs.
- 300 V RMS CAT II — maximum working voltage; it derates as signal frequency rises.
- Four ground and tip options — ground needle, ground spring needle, alligator ground lead and sprung hook.
- Replaceable needle tip — a worn or bent tip is swapped by hand or with pliers.
UT-P07B Details
Short ground, cleaner edges
The ground spring needle keeps the ground loop short. The manual's guidance is to ground as close to the component as possible: a smaller loop picks up less noise and preserves bandwidth.
Compensate before you measure
Connect the tip to the oscilloscope's 1 kHz calibration square wave (about 2 Vpp) and turn the trimmer at the BNC end until the top of the square wave is flat. An under- or over-compensated probe cannot meet its specification.
Applications
- Embedded and digital debug — clocks, buses and logic levels on boards under development.
- Power electronics, low-voltage side — control signals and gate-drive logic within the probe's CAT II rating.
- Teaching and service benches — a general-purpose probe for 1 MΩ oscilloscope inputs up to 500 MHz.
Compatibility
Works with oscilloscopes that have a 1 MΩ BNC input. For a lower-cost 500 MHz option see the UT-P07A; for signals that need more bandwidth or less loading, see the UT-PA1000 and UT-PA2000 active probes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the maximum voltage?
300 V RMS, CAT II. The rating falls as the signal frequency rises, and the probe must not be used for CAT III or CAT IV measurements.
Does it work with a 50 Ω input?
No. It is a 1 MΩ-input probe; set the oscilloscope channel to 1 MΩ.
How do I compensate it?
Probe the oscilloscope's 1 kHz calibration output and adjust the trimmer at the BNC connector until the square wave has a flat top.
