UPO6000LP-CANFD Automotive Serial Bus Trigger and Analysis Option (CAN-FD)
Overview
The UPO6000LP-CANFD adds CAN with Flexible Data-rate triggering and decoding to your UPO6000LP Series oscilloscope. It handles both halves of a CAN-FD frame β the arbitration phase from 10 kbps to 5 Mbps and the data phase at up to 8 Mbps β with an adjustable sample point from 30% to 90% of the bit time to match your network's configuration.
Why it matters: CAN-FD carries up to 64 bytes per frame and switches bitrate mid-frame, which makes it far less forgiving of ringing, slow edges and sample-point mismatches than classic CAN. Seeing the fast data phase at 12-bit resolution, with the decode lined up underneath, is how you tell a firmware problem from a signal-integrity one.
The option is enabled by a software license keyed to the oscilloscope's serial number and is permanent for the life of the instrument.
Key Features
- Dual-Rate Decoding β Separate arbitration and data-phase bitrates with a configurable sample position, so frames decode correctly on networks that do not use default timing.
- CAN and CAN-FD Frame Formats β Trigger on standard, extended, FD standard or FD extended frames; on ID, on data (1β16 bytes with a byte offset up to 63 for payloads deep in a 64-byte frame), or on ID and data together.
- Frame and Error Triggers β Start and end of frame, remote, error and overload frames, loss of acknowledge, bit-stuff errors, CRC errors, or any error.
- Event List and Export β Decoded frames appear on the trace and in a time-stamped event list (hex, decimal, binary or ASCII), which can be saved as CSV, HTML or PDF to internal storage or USB for reports and offline analysis.
- Lifetime License Activation β activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.
When You Need This Option
The option fits the following workflows:
- CAN-FD Migration β Validate a node moving from classic CAN to CAN-FD β confirm the bitrate switch, sample point and payload length behave as specified before it goes on the vehicle network.
- Data-Phase Signal Integrity β Correlate a CRC failure in the fast data phase with ringing or edge-rate problems on CAN_H/CAN_L in the same acquisition.
Compatibility
This option is compatible with all UPO6000LP Series oscilloscopes: UPO6034LP (350 MHz, 4 ch), UPO6038LP (350 MHz, 8 ch), UPO6054LP (500 MHz, 4 ch), UPO6058LP (500 MHz, 8 ch), UPO6104LP (1 GHz, 4 ch) and UPO6108LP (1 GHz, 8 ch).
The same capability is offered on other UNI-T oscilloscope families: MSO2000X, MSO3000HD, MSO5000HD, MSO7000X, MSO8000HD, UPO7000L.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it work on mixed CAN and CAN-FD networks?
Yes β the CAN-FD trigger accepts classic standard and extended frames as well as FD frames. The dedicated classic CAN option, UPO6000LP-CAN, is a separate license; if you need both, UPO6000LP-AUTO includes CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay and SENT in one license for less than buying them separately.
How is this option activated?
Buy the option key from your UNI-T distributor, then enter the key and the oscilloscope's serial number on the License Activation page of the UNI-T website to generate a license file. Copy the file to the root of a USB drive and activate it under Utility > Options. The Options screen then lists the option as Activated, with a duration of Permanent.
Can I try it first, and is the license permanent?
Yes to both. Every UPO6000LP option includes a 540-hour trial on the instrument, so you can prove it on your own hardware before you buy. Once activated, the license is permanent for the life of the oscilloscope β no subscriptions, no renewals and no expiration.
