UPO6000LP-CAN Automotive Serial Bus Trigger and Analysis Option (CAN)
Overview
The UPO6000LP-CAN adds Controller Area Network (CAN) triggering and decoding to your UPO6000LP Series oscilloscope. The scope locks onto CAN_H or CAN_L at any standard bitrate from 10 kbps to 5 Mbps (or a custom rate), triggers on the exact frame, ID, data or error you are chasing, and lays the decoded frames directly over the analog waveform.
Why it matters: CAN faults are rarely just logical. A frame that fails CRC or a stuff-bit violation usually has a physical cause β reflections, a weak transceiver, ground shift, a missing terminator. With 12-bit vertical resolution and up to 500 Mpts per channel, the UPO6000LP shows you the error and the electrical reason for it in the same capture.
The option is enabled by a software license keyed to the oscilloscope's serial number and is permanent for the life of the instrument.
Key Features
- Thirteen Trigger Conditions β Start of frame, data frame, remote frame, error frame, overload frame, identifier (standard 11-bit or extended 29-bit, with read/write direction), data (1β8 bytes), ID and data, end of frame, and loss of acknowledge.
- Error Triggers β Trigger directly on bit-stuff errors, CRC errors, or any error β the fastest way to catch an intermittent fault that only appears once every few thousand frames.
- Event List and Export β Decoded frames appear on the trace and in a time-stamped event list (hex, decimal, binary or ASCII), which can be saved as CSV, HTML or PDF to internal storage or USB for reports and offline analysis.
- Four Decoders at Once β Up to four buses can be decoded simultaneously (Decode 1β4), so this protocol can be read alongside the standard RS-232/UART, I²C and SPI decoders on the same capture.
- Lifetime License Activation β activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.
When You Need This Option
The option fits the following workflows:
- ECU Development β Trigger on your module's arbitration ID and verify payload, timing and acknowledge behavior against the network specification, with the physical-layer waveform on the same screen.
- Intermittent Bus Errors β Arm an error trigger, leave the scope running on the harness, and come back to a capture of the exact frame that failed β with the waveform that caused it.
Compatibility
This option is compatible with all UPO6000LP Series oscilloscopes: UPO6034LP (350 MHz, 4 ch), UPO6038LP (350 MHz, 8 ch), UPO6054LP (500 MHz, 4 ch), UPO6058LP (500 MHz, 8 ch), UPO6104LP (1 GHz, 4 ch) and UPO6108LP (1 GHz, 8 ch).
The same capability is offered on other UNI-T oscilloscope families: MSO2000X, MSO3000HD, MSO3000X.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy this individually or get a bundle?
If classic CAN is the only protocol you need, this license covers exactly that. If your vehicle network also uses CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay or SENT, UPO6000LP-AUTO covers all five automotive protocols in one license, and UPO6000LP-BND unlocks every optional serial bus on the UPO6000LP.
How is this option activated?
Buy the option key from your UNI-T distributor, then enter the key and the oscilloscope's serial number on the License Activation page of the UNI-T website to generate a license file. Copy the file to the root of a USB drive and activate it under Utility > Options. The Options screen then lists the option as Activated, with a duration of Permanent.
Can I try it first, and is the license permanent?
Yes to both. Every UPO6000LP option includes a 540-hour trial on the instrument, so you can prove it on your own hardware before you buy. Once activated, the license is permanent for the life of the oscilloscope β no subscriptions, no renewals and no expiration.
