UTS7000A-VSA Vector Signal Analysis Option for UTS7000A Series

Overview

UTS7000A-VSA is the vector signal analysis software-license option for the UTS7000A signal analyzer platform. The license adds general-purpose digital modulation analysis with constellation, EVM, magnitude error, phase error, and symbol-table measurements across the major digital modulation families β€” PSK, QAM, FSK, MSK, and ASK variants.

VSA operates as a dedicated measurement mode on the chassis. Symbol rate is set from 1 ksps up to the chassis analysis bandwidth divided by symbol points. The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, installed via the chassis Option Install menu, and is permanent for the life of the instrument.

Key Features

  • Digital modulation analysis β€” Constellation, EVM, magnitude error, phase error, IQ diagram, eye diagrams, and symbol-table outputs
  • Modulation type coverage β€” PSK (BPSK, QPSK, 8PSK, OQPSK, DQPSK, D8PSK, Ο€/4-DQPSK, Ο€/8-D8PSK), QAM (16, 32, 64, 128, 256), FSK (2/4/8/16), ASK (2/4/8/16), MSK (Type1, Type2)
  • Symbol rate β€” 1 ksps up to the chassis analysis bandwidth divided by symbol points
  • Measurement symbol length β€” 10 to 4,096 symbols per measurement
  • Configurable measurement filter β€” Cosine and Gaussian filter shapes with adjustable alpha/BT parameters
  • Lifetime License Activation β€” activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.

What Vector Signal Analysis Adds

The VSA option configures the instrument as a vector signal analyzer with the following measurement parameters. Values are taken from the UTS7000A Series datasheet.

Specification Value
Modulation types PSK, QAM, FSK, ASK, MSK families (full list in Key Features)
Measurement symbol length 10 to 4,096 symbols
Symbol point / oversampling rate 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20
Symbol rate 1 ksps to analyzer bandwidth / symbol point
Measurement filter shapes Cosine and Gaussian, with adjustable alpha (cosine) or BT (Gaussian)
Error summary outputs EVM, magnitude error, phase error, IQ offset, carrier offset, SNR, quadrature error, symbol table
Display formats IQ diagram, constellation, I-eye, Q-eye
Operating mode Dedicated VSA measurement mode on the chassis

When You Need This Option

The option fits the following measurement workflows:

  • Custom radio protocol bring-up β€” Verifies modulation and demodulation behavior on proprietary or non-standardized radio designs where a cellular-specific analyzer mode does not apply.
  • Digital-radio R&D characterization β€” Constellation, EVM, and symbol-table measurements for development work on PSK, QAM, FSK, MSK, and ASK transmitters.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRa digital modulation verification β€” Symbol-level inspection of IoT-band digital modulations using the chassis's analysis bandwidth.
  • Production-floor digital modulation QC β€” Dedicated VSA mode with constellation and EVM as standing outputs supports repeatable per-unit verification.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the VSA option work with cellular standards like LTE or 5G NR?

The VSA option provides general-purpose digital modulation analysis with the standard PSK, QAM, FSK, MSK, and ASK families. For 3GPP-compliant cellular demodulation, the chassis offers separate dedicated options: UTS7000A-FDD-LTE for LTE FDD, UTS7000A-TDD-LTE for LTE TDD, and UTS7000A-NR for 5G NR. Each is licensed independently.

How is the license installed?

The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, registered on the UNI-T website to obtain the license file, and installed via the chassis Option Install menu using a USB storage device. Refer to the chassis User Manual for the full step-by-step procedure.

Is the license permanent, or does it require renewal?

The license is permanent β€” a one-time purchase that remains active for the life of the instrument. There are no subscription fees, no annual renewals, and no expiration date.

Can the option be installed on a UTS7000A–NB narrow-band chassis?

Yes. Measurement function options install on all UTS7000A chassis variants including the narrow-band (–NB) configurations. The option installs and operates independently of the chassis bandwidth configuration.
