UTS7000A-I/Q I/Q Analyzer Option for UTS7000A Series

Overview

UTS7000A-I/Q is the I/Q (in-phase and quadrature) analyzer software-license option for the UTS7000A signal analyzer platform. The license adds complex baseband I and Q time-record capture alongside the chassis's frequency-domain view, so the same signal can be inspected in both time and frequency representations.

I/Q operates as a dedicated measurement mode on the chassis. Captured I/Q records support both time-domain and frequency-domain inspection, are useful for protocol-level debug and custom-modulation verification, and can be exported for post-capture analysis in external tools where raw IQ samples are needed. The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, installed via the chassis Option Install menu, and is permanent for the life of the instrument.

Key Features

  • Complex baseband I/Q capture β€” Records the in-phase and quadrature components of the signal alongside the frequency-domain view
  • Time-record length β€” 8,000,000 IQ sample pairs per acquisition
  • Sample rate β€” 1 GSa/s on the wide-band IF path (40 MHz and above); 100 MSa/s on the 20 MHz IF path
  • ADC resolution β€” 14 bits
  • Display formats β€” I and Q waveforms with grid display, real part, imaginary part, magnitude, and phase
  • Lifetime License Activation β€” activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.

What I/Q Analysis Adds

The I/Q option configures the instrument as a dedicated I/Q analyzer with the following acquisition parameters. Values are taken from the UTS7000A Series datasheet.

Specification Value
Operating mode Dedicated I/Q analysis mode on the chassis
Time record length 8,000,000 IQ sample pairs
Sample rate (20 MHz IF path) 100 MSa/s
Sample rate (40 MHz to 255 MHz IF path) 1 GSa/s
Data rate (20 MHz path) IFBW Γ— 1.25
Data rate (40 MHz+ path) IFBW Γ— 1.2
ADC resolution 14 bits
FFT window types Hanning, Flat-top, Gaussian, Blackman, Kaiser
Trigger modes Free trigger, external trigger, periodic trigger
Displayed measurement results I and Q time-record windows alongside spectrum window

When You Need This Option

The option fits the following measurement workflows:

  • Custom modulation verification β€” Time-domain inspection of complex baseband I and Q for non-standard or proprietary modulation schemes that VSA mode does not directly demodulate.
  • Protocol-level debug β€” Raw IQ sample export to external tools for offline analysis of protocol framing, burst structure, and timing relationships.
  • Wideband signal capture for post-processing β€” 8,000,000 IQ sample pairs per record captured on a single trigger event, suitable for offline vector signal analysis or custom algorithm development.
  • Transient and burst-mode signal study β€” Time-correlated I/Q capture for short-duration events that swept-spectrum analysis cannot show in time order.

The option installs as a software license on any UTS7000A series chassis. Compatibility:

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is one captured I/Q record?

Each acquisition captures 8,000,000 IQ sample pairs. The duration in time depends on the active sample rate β€” 8 ms at 1 GSa/s on the wide-band IF path, or 80 ms at 100 MSa/s on the 20 MHz IF path.

Can the captured I/Q data be exported?

Yes. The captured I/Q record is available in the instrument's measurement-data view and can be exported via USB or LAN for offline processing in external tools.

How is the license installed?

The license is purchased against the chassis serial number, registered on the UNI-T website to obtain the license file, and installed via the chassis Option Install menu using a USB storage device. Refer to the chassis User Manual for the full step-by-step procedure.

Is the license permanent, or does it require renewal?

The license is permanent β€” a one-time purchase that remains active for the life of the instrument. There are no subscription fees, no annual renewals, and no expiration date.

Can the option be installed on a UTS7000A–NB narrow-band chassis?

Yes. Measurement function options install on all UTS7000A chassis variants including the narrow-band (–NB) configurations. The option installs and operates independently of the chassis bandwidth configuration.
