UTS7000A-P26: 26.5 GHz Preamplifier

Overview

The UTS7000A-P26 preamplifier option adds an internal low-noise preamplifier covering 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz, extending sensitivity enhancement through the full K-band spectrum. At frequencies above 13.6 GHz, atmospheric and cable losses compound rapidly—a 24 GHz automotive radar signal traversing even a short test cable can lose several dB before reaching the analyzer input. The P26 preamplifier recovers that margin, dropping the effective noise floor by approximately 12–17 dB depending on frequency, and making the difference between a reliable measurement and a frustrating fight with the noise floor.

K-band satellite uplinks (17.7–21.2 GHz), 24 GHz automotive radar development, and 5G FR2 base station testing below 26.5 GHz all involve weak signals at frequencies where every dB of analyzer sensitivity counts. The P26 ensures your UTS7026A, UTS7032A, or UTS7040A can reach the signals that matter.

⚠ Factory-Installed Option: The preamplifier is a hardware option that must be ordered with the analyzer at time of purchase. It cannot be added in the field after delivery. Specify UTS7000A-P26 when placing your order.

What the Preamplifier Enables at K-Band

24 GHz Automotive Radar Development: Characterizing FMCW radar transmitters at 24 GHz requires measuring not just the fundamental carrier, but also harmonic and spurious emissions that may be 50–70 dB below the carrier. With the preamplifier engaged, the UTS7026A achieves typical DANL of -152 to -159 dBm at 22.8–26.5 GHz—providing the measurement headroom to characterize low-level spurious products that determine whether a radar module passes ETSI EN 302 288 emission limits.

K-Band Satellite Terminal Testing: Satellite earth station transmitters operating at Ku/K-band (14–21.2 GHz) must meet tight spectral purity requirements to avoid interfering with adjacent satellites—typically requiring spurious measurements 40–60 dB below carrier. The P26 preamplifier provides the sensitivity needed to verify these specifications without resorting to external preamplifiers that introduce their own calibration uncertainties.

5G FR2 Below 26.5 GHz: 5G NR band n258 (24.25–27.5 GHz) partially falls within the P26's coverage. For base station and UE receiver sensitivity testing in the lower portion of this band, the preamplifier ensures the analyzer doesn't become the measurement bottleneck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add the preamplifier later if I don't order it now?

No. The preamplifier is an internal hardware module installed during manufacturing. It cannot be retrofitted in the field. If you anticipate any need for enhanced sensitivity at K-band frequencies—radar development, satellite testing, or weak signal characterization above 13.6 GHz—order the preamplifier option with your analyzer.

I have a UTS7026A. Should I choose P13 or P26?

If you work above 13.6 GHz—24 GHz radar, K-band satellite, or anything requiring enhanced sensitivity through 26.5 GHz—choose the P26. The P26 covers 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz, so it includes full P13 coverage plus the K-band extension. There's no benefit to choosing P13 on a 26.5 GHz analyzer unless you are certain you'll never need preamplification above 13.6 GHz.

Does the preamplifier affect the analyzer's frequency response accuracy?

The preamplifier is characterized and calibrated during manufacturing. When engaged, the analyzer automatically applies gain correction factors. Frequency response with preamp on is specified at ±1.10 to ±2.80 dB depending on frequency band (see datasheet for detailed specifications by frequency range), which is appropriate for the types of weak-signal measurements where preamplification is needed.

K-band sensitivity that reveals what's hiding in the noise—order the P26 with your analyzer because you can't add it later.
