MSO7204X | Lab-Grade 2 GHz 4-Channel Nine-in-One Oscilloscope

Overview

The MSO7204X is a lab-grade 2 GHz mixed-signal oscilloscope with four analog channels, built on a Windows 10 IoT Ent LTSC platform with Intel Core i5 processing. The full 2 GHz analog bandwidth and 10 GSa/s sample rate are available in single-channel mode at 50 Ω; four-channel mode runs at 1 GHz analog bandwidth and 2.5 GSa/s. With 1 Gpts of acquisition memory in single-channel mode (250 Mpts at full four-channel), UltraAcq® waveform mapping at ≥800,000 wfms/s standard (2,000,000 wfms/s in Sequence mode), and a 15.6-inch FHD capacitive multi-touch front end, the MSO7204X is a nine-in-one bench platform consolidating oscilloscope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, AWG, DVM, frequency counter, multi-bus protocol analyzer, power analyzer, and jitter analyzer with eye diagram (some functions require optional license unlocks — see Detailed Features below).

For high-speed digital signal-integrity work at 2 GHz, serial-link compliance in the USB 3.0 / PCIe Gen 1-2 region, MIPI characterization, jitter analysis on data rates above ~1 Gbps, and independent test-lab work at the high end of mid-bandwidth instrumentation, the MSO7204X is the top SKU in the MSO7000X line. Calculated rise time of 175 ps resolves leading-edge content on the fastest commercial silicon. Selectable 50 Ω / 1 MΩ inputs (1 MΩ caps at 500 MHz) bring RF-grade signal-chain options to the same instrument. If your application requires 12 bits at full sample rate rather than via averaging or filtering, see UNI-T’s MSO5000HD-series (R12™ native 12-bit at 1 GHz) — the bandwidth-vs-precision tradeoff is the real conversation.

Detailed Features

MSO7000X nine integrated instruments
Nine instruments integrated: scope, logic analyzer, spectrum analyzer, AWG, DVM, frequency counter, protocol analyzer, power analyzer, jitter analyzer.

Nine Instruments in One Platform

The MSO7000X integrates nine instrument functions in one bench unit. Standard configuration includes the digital storage oscilloscope, enhanced-FFT spectrum analyzer, 4-digit DVM, 8-bit hardware frequency counter, and the standard portion of the 11-protocol multi-bus analyzer (RS-232/422/485/UART, I²C, SPI, CAN, LIN). Function-unlock options enable the remaining four instruments: 16-channel logic analyzer (MSO7000X-LA + UT-M15 probe pod), 60 MHz dual-channel function/arbitrary waveform generator (MSO7000X-AWG), advanced jitter and eye diagram (MSO7000X-JITTER), and six-measurement power analysis (MSO7000X-PWR). Optional protocol licenses extend decode to CAN-FD, FlexRay, SENT, AudioBus, and aerospace MIL-STD-1553/ARINC 429 — or bundle them with MSO7000X-BND. For independent test labs and design consultancies covering scope, spectrum, protocol, jitter, AWG-driven stimulus, and power-analysis work at the high-bandwidth tier, the integration condenses what would otherwise be eight or nine separate instruments into one Windows 10-platform operator surface and one annual calibration cycle.

UltraAcq® Acquisition Engine — ≥800K wfms/s Standard, 2M Sequence

UltraAcq® is UNI-T’s flagship acquisition architecture: multi-body cross-mapping with sub-1 µs dead time and waveform-mapping rates of ≥800,000 wfms/s standard, 2,000,000 wfms/s in Sequence mode. Compared to traditional 200,000 wfms/s scopes, the MSO7000X captures more than one million 200 ps fast-edge events per second — the difference between catching an intermittent fault and missing it. Paired with Ultra Phosphor 2.0 display rendering for visible escaped-signal capture.

MSO7000X UltraAcq high-speed acquisition
UltraAcq® delivers ≥800,000 wfms/s standard; 2,000,000 wfms/s in Sequence mode with sub-1 µs dead time.

Windows 10 Platform — Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD

The MSO7000X runs Windows 10 IoT Ent LTSC 64-bit on an Intel Core i5-6500 with 8 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD — a real general-purpose computing platform under the instrument, not an embedded shell. Run automation scripts, install drivers, and post-process captures with on-instrument MATLAB or Python pipelines; direct file system access handles capture archival.

Deep Memory — Up to 1 Gpts Standard

The 1 Gpts memory depth at single-channel mode is the deepest acquisition window standard-configuration in the MSO7000X line — capturing tens of thousands of waveforms in a single acquisition for post-event analysis on high-speed serial-link compliance work, multi-cycle GaN/SiC switching transients, and long-duration jitter characterization. At dual-channel mode (C1+C2 or C3+C4), memory remains 500 Mpts; full four-channel runs at 250 Mpts. For independent test labs running customer-design validation across multi-cycle transient and long-record acquisition work, the deep-memory budget makes pass/fail evidence reports comprehensive on the first capture — meaningful customer-bench-time savings on rework cycles.

Vertical Resolution — 8-Bit Native with High Resolution Mode and ERes

The MSO7204X has an 8-bit native ADC with two paths to higher effective vertical resolution. High Resolution mode (acquisition menu) applies single-acquisition moving averaging across adjacent samples to reach up to 12 effective bits at full sample rate — useful for general-purpose noise reduction. Enhanced Resolution (ERes, Math menu) applies an FIR filter for up to 3 additional bits on band-limited signals, trading sample rate for resolution (each 0.5-bit improvement halves the usable rate). If your application requires 12 bits at full sample rate and full bandwidth rather than via averaging or filtering, see UNI-T’s MSO5000HD-series: R12™ native 12-bit ADC at 1 GHz peak bandwidth, with ERes to 16 bits on top. The real conversation at this tier is the bandwidth-vs-precision tradeoff — 2 GHz at 8-bit + ERes vs. 1 GHz native 12-bit + 16-bit ERes.

MSO7000X built-in spectrum analyzer
Frequency analysis up to oscilloscope analog bandwidth; multiple spectrum view types.

Built-In Spectrum Analyzer — Enhanced FFT to 1 Mpts

The standard enhanced-FFT spectrum analyzer covers the full oscilloscope analog bandwidth with up to 1 Mpts FFT length and multiple view types (amplitude, power, PSD, real, imaginary, phase). Two spectrum-view windows can run simultaneously across five window functions (Rectangular, Hanning, Blackman, Hamming, Flattop) — for harmonic ID, EMI pre-compliance sweeps, and modulated-signal analysis without the cable swap a separate analyzer requires.

Protocol Analysis — 11 Bus Types Across Five Domains

Eleven protocols across five bus domains: computer (RS-232/422/485/UART), embedded (I²C, SPI), and automotive (CAN, LIN) standard; CAN-FD, FlexRay, SENT, AudioBus (I²S/LJ/RJ/TDM), and aerospace MIL-STD-1553/ARINC 429 optional. Trigger-and-decode integration covers frame-error, identifier-match, CRC-failure, and pattern-match conditions with inline decode display, event list, and search. The optional MSO7000X-BND upgrade suite bundles JITTER, PWR, CAN-FD, FlexRay, SENT, AUDIO, and AERO at a package discount.

For high-speed serial-link compliance and signal-integrity work, the optional MSO7000X-JITTER package adds eye-diagram analysis with multiple clock-recovery methods (fixed frequency, first-order PLL, second-order PLL, external clock), standard and user-defined eye templates, and full jitter decomposition: TIE, TJ BER, RJ, DJ, PJ, DDJ, DCD. Visualization includes TIE trend, TIE spectrogram, histogram, and bathtub curve. Eye-diagram parameters cover Eye Amplitude, Height, Width, Level 1/0, and Q-factor.

60 MHz Dual-Channel Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator (Optional)

The optional MSO7000X-AWG package adds a 60 MHz dual-channel function/arbitrary waveform generator (16-bit, 625 MSa/s) with sine, square, pulse, ramp, noise, DC, and 200+ pre-loaded arbitrary waveforms plus a custom-waveform editor. Modulation and sweep modes support stimulus-response work, closed-loop stability sweeps paired with MSO7000X-PWR, and time-correlated stimulus-and-capture testing alongside scope acquisition.

Optional MSO7000X-AWG dual-channel arbitrary waveform generator
MSO7000X-AWG: 60 MHz, 2-channel, 16-bit, 625 MSa/s; 200+ built-in arbitrary waveforms.
MSO7000X optional power analysis
Optional MSO7000X-PWR: power quality, harmonic, switching loss, ripple, loop, SOA.

Power Analysis (Optional MSO7000X-PWR) — Six Measurement Types

For wide-bandgap (GaN, SiC) power-electronics validation at full 2 GHz analog bandwidth, high-frequency motor drives, fast-edge DC-DC converter characterization, and lab-bench validation of high-frequency switching designs, the optional MSO7000X-PWR power-analysis package extends the four-channel scope acquisition into a working power analyzer: power quality measurement, harmonic analysis, switching loss across the cycle, ripple analysis on output rails, loop analysis (paired with the optional MSO7000X-AWG for closed-loop stability sweeps), and safe operating area visualization for device-stress validation. The 2 GHz analog bandwidth captures fast-edge content on the latest commercial GaN and SiC switching devices where 1 GHz scopes start to limit measurement accuracy.

Mask and Limit Testing — Standard

Standard mask and limit testing for production-line spot-checks, compliance verification, and pass/fail evidence reporting. Custom or template masks; configurable failure actions (Stop, Save, Alarm, Generate Test Report) with integrated test-report output for design-verification workflows.

48 Automated Measurements with Histogram and Trend Statistics

48 automated measurement parameters across voltage, timing, statistical, and burst measurements; up to 10 displayed simultaneously, 35 in Quick Meas mode. Statistics include current, average, max, min, standard deviation, count, histogram, trend chart, and trace analysis. Histogram analysis covers μ±1σ / μ±2σ / μ±3σ distribution, mode, mean, peak count, and total sample size — for jitter, long-record, and pass/fail evidence work.

Fast Fuzzy Autoset — Under 1.5 Seconds Full-Channel

Fuzzy-logic autoset uses the 8-bit hardware frequency counter and multi-channel parallel processing to lock onto unknown signals: all-channel autoset under 1.5 seconds, single-channel under 1.4 seconds — meaningful on production spot-checks, design-review benches, and customer-bench service work where setup time affects billable engagement.

15.6-Inch FHD Capacitive Multi-Touch UI

The 15.6-inch 1920×1080 FHD capacitive multi-touch display supports standard gestures (click, slide, zoom, edit, drag) for direct waveform manipulation. The user-defined multi-window layout docks channel menu, FFT, decode list, math, and measurement panels to N/S/E/W regions or floats them arbitrarily — the 15.6-inch real estate accommodates reference, decode, math, FFT, and digital channels visible simultaneously. Knob-and-key controls remain alongside touch; HDMI mirrors to external monitors; mouse and keyboard support handle long-session work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the MSO7204X compare to the MSO8804HD?

Different tiers. The MSO7204X is a 2 GHz, 8-bit-native instrument with High Resolution acquisition mode (12 effective bits via averaging) and ERes (up to +3 bits via FIR filter), 1 Gpts memory, and the nine-in-one platform — priced for high-end R&D and high-speed digital signal-integrity validation up to ~1 Gbps serial-link rates. The MSO8804HD is an 8 GHz, R12™ native 12-bit instrument purpose-built for next-tier serial-link compliance (USB 3.x, PCIe Gen 3+, high-end SerDes), full-bandwidth wide-bandgap characterization, and jitter work where the 6 GHz of additional bandwidth and native 12-bit determine measurement validity. For 2 GHz-envelope applications that require native 12-bit rather than averaging, the closer peer is the MSO5000HD-series at 1 GHz.

What's the difference between standard capture rate and Sequence mode?

Standard capture rate (≥800,000 wfms/s via UltraAcq®) is the MSO7204X’s continuous real-time waveform acquisition rate. Sequence mode (2,000,000 wfms/s) uses segmented memory to capture multiple trigger-conditioned frames for post-capture replay — for rare-event hunting where the trigger is well-defined.

What does the 3+2 warranty cover?

Three years of standard coverage plus two additional years with product registration — five years total when registered. Calibration certificate ships standard; recommended cal interval is one year. Free firmware updates and no-expiration license unlocks for optional packages over the product lifetime.

Design. Debug. Deploy.
