MSO3000HD-PWR Power Analysis Option
Overview
The MSO3000HD-PWR transforms your MSO3000HD Series oscilloscope into a power measurement instrument. Automated switching loss, SOA, ripple, harmonics, THD, efficiency, and power quality analysis.
For power supply, motor drive, inverter, and switching converter design/validation/troubleshooting. Eliminates hours of manual measurement setup. The option is enabled by a software license keyed to the oscilloscope's serial number and is permanent for the life of the instrument.
Key Features
- Switching Loss — Calculates energy per switching transition for MOSFETs, IGBTs. Essential for thermal design and efficiency.
- Safe Operating Area — Plots V×I trajectories against device limits during transients, startup, and faults.
- Ripple Analysis — Output ripple amplitude and frequency content. Identifies sources: switching frequency, ESR, load transients.
- Harmonics and THD — Up to 50th harmonic and total harmonic distortion. Validates IEC 61000-3-2 compliance.
- Efficiency — Input vs. output power for real-time converter efficiency. No external power analyzer needed.
- Lifetime License Activation — activate once, owned for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no renewals, no maintenance fees.
When You Need This Option
The option fits the following workflows:
- SMPS Design — Quantify switching losses in a flyback MOSFET. Connect probes, select measurement, get per-cycle loss data automatically.
- EV Charging Debug — Charger failing efficiency targets. Compare input/output power in real time, check SOA for device stress.
Compatibility
This option is compatible with all MSO3000HD Series oscilloscopes: MSO3024HD (200 MHz), MSO3034HD (350 MHz), MSO3054HD (500 MHz). The same capability is offered on other UNI-T oscilloscope families: MSO2000X, MSO3000X, MSO5000HD, MSO7000X, MSO8000HD, UPO2000HD, UPO7000L.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need special probes?
At least one current probe — UT-CP03 (30A) or UT-CP04 (50A). A differential probe is recommended for floating voltage measurements.
Same as a power analyzer?
Different tools. Oscilloscope PWR excels at time-domain switching analysis (per-cycle loss, SOA, transients). A dedicated power analyzer like UTE310/UTE323 is better for steady-state with higher accuracy. Many engineers use both.
How is this option activated?
The option is enabled by a software license keyed to the oscilloscope's serial number. After purchase, the license is registered on the UNI-T website to generate the license file, which is then loaded onto the instrument from a USB drive through the option-install menu. Refer to the oscilloscope's user manual for the step-by-step procedure.
Is the license permanent, or does it require renewal?
The license is permanent — a one-time purchase that stays active for the life of the instrument. No subscriptions, no annual renewals, and no expiration.
