Performance, protections, and programmability are identical across the line. You're choosing for your load.

Decision 1: Choose Your Voltage Class

Pick the lowest voltage class that exceeds your maximum load voltage with reasonable headroom (typically 10–20%). Higher voltage classes trade max current at a given power rating.

40 V

Best for: Low-voltage battery (1S–10S Li-ion), 3.3 V/5 V/12 V/24 V/36 V digital systems, automotive 12 V/24 V bus testing

80 V

Best for: 48 V telecom, e-bike packs (10S–20S), light EV traction, two-wheeler battery test

160 V

Best for: Solar microinverter, 96 V industrial, 120 V mains-derived DC, mid-voltage battery test

250 V

Best for: 200 V industrial, single-phase mains DC, PV string-level test, light EV battery packs

800 V

Best for: EV traction battery (400–800 V architectures), high-voltage PV strings, industrial DC bus, fuel cell test

Decision 2: Choose Your Power Level

Within each voltage class, four power levels β€” 400 W, 800 W, 1200 W, and 2000 W β€” cover everything from low-current cell-level testing through 200 A automotive battery validation. Constant-power architecture means a 2000 W unit delivers 2000 W across most of its V/I envelope, not only at maximum voltage.

Power Level Form Factor Typical Use
400 W 2U benchtop R&D bench, cell-level battery test, embedded systems, prototyping
800 W 2U benchtop Module-level battery test, light power-electronics validation, ATE
1200 W 3U / rack Pack-level battery test, mid-power converter validation, production test
2000 W 3U / rack EV pack test, high-current motor drive, industrial production test

Tip: Need more power than 2000 W? Use parallel mode to combine multiple units for up to 6000 W in a single voltage class. Series mode doubles the voltage ceiling.

Recommended Configurations

Li-ion Cell / Small Pack Test

UDP5040-40 or UDP5040-80

40 V covers 1S–10S Li-ion (up to ~42 V fully charged). 40 A or 80 A handles cell-level cycling and small pack characterization. List mode runs CC/CV charge profiles automatically.

48 V Battery / Telecom DC

UDP5080-40 or UDP5080-60

80 V class with 40–60 A handles 48 V telecom rectifier replacement, e-bike packs, and 48 V automotive accessory testing. Programmable load profiles for endurance testing.

EV Traction Battery Test

UDP5800-6 or UDP5800-10

800 V class covers both 400 V and 800 V EV architectures. Up to 10 A at 800 V (8 kW) for full-pack validation. Parallel multiple units for higher current; ideal for HV pack ATE.

PV String / Solar Inverter Test

UDP5160-24 or UDP5250-18

Mid-voltage PV string emulation. List mode simulates irradiance profiles (MPPT testing). 160 V or 250 V class covers residential and light-commercial PV inverter inputs.

Motor Drive / Inverter Validation

UDP5250-30 or UDP5160-40

2000 W class with 30–40 A drives motor controller and inverter DC bus testing. Stable voltage at high current; parallel for higher motor power.

R&D Bench / Prototyping

UDP5040-40 or UDP5080-20

400 W class β€” compact 2U bench footprint, full programmability, generous V/I envelope for most digital and embedded prototyping work.

Automotive 12 V/24 V Bus Test

UDP5040-120 or UDP5040-200

40 V with 120 A or 200 A β€” generous headroom for 12 V automotive bus testing, cold-crank profiles, load-dump simulation, BMS validation.

Industrial 200–250 V DC Bus

UDP5250-12 or UDP5250-18

250 V class for industrial DC bus emulation, single-phase mains-derived loads, capacitor formation, and motor field windings.

Why Choose UDP5000?

Constant Power Architecture

Full rated power across the V/I envelope, not just at a single voltage. A 2000 W unit delivers 2000 W at 50 V and at 200 V β€” useful range, not a marketing peak.

20-Model Matrix

5 voltage classes Γ— 4 power levels gives 20 combinations β€” find a unit that fits your load without overbuying voltage or power you won't use.

Series and Parallel Combining

Combine units in series for higher voltage, parallel for higher current. Scale to 6000 W and beyond using same-model parallel groups.

5-Year Warranty

3 years plus 2-year extension on every UDP5000 β€” parts and labor. Two years longer than the industry standard 3-year terms.

FAQ

What does "constant power" mean?

Traditional power supplies have a single rated voltage and current β€” e.g., 40 V Γ— 40 A = 1600 W rated point, but at lower voltages the current ceiling is the limit. Constant-power supplies (like UDP5000) deliver full rated wattage across most of the V/I curve, so a 400 W / 40 V unit can also deliver 400 W at 20 V Γ— 20 A, 10 V Γ— 40 A, etc.

Can I combine multiple UDP5000 units?

Yes. Same-model units can be combined in series (doubles voltage ceiling) or parallel (sums current, up to 3 units in parallel for 3Γ— power). Common applications: 1600 V series-pair for HVDC, or 6 kW parallel groups for EV pack test.

What's the difference between switching and linear DC supplies?

Switching supplies (like UDP5000) are smaller, lighter, more efficient, and more programmable β€” ideal for production test, ATE, and any application where you need significant power per rack U. Linear supplies have lower output noise and faster transient response β€” better for low-noise analog work and very fast load steps. UDP5000 is switching.

Suitable for automated test systems?

Yes. Full SCPI command set, LAN/USB standard, optional GPIB. List mode supports up to 50 programmable steps from front panel or USB import.

How is constant current handled?

UDP5000 supports both CV (constant voltage) and CC (constant current) operation with automatic crossover. List mode programs both modes with arbitrary timing for battery cycling and electronic-load-like profiles.

What's in the 5-year warranty?

Parts and labor for 5 full years. Standard on every UDP5000 β€” no registration or extended warranty purchase required.

Twenty models, one architecture β€” choose the UDP5000 that fits your voltage class and your load.
