UDP5000 DC Switching Power Supplies
The UDP5000 line is a 20-SKU high-power programmable DC switching supply family covering 400 W to 2 kW across four output voltage classes — 40 V, 80 V, 160 V, 250 V, and 800 V — with corresponding current capability up to 200 A per output. Which UDP5000 Is Right for You?
The UDP5000 series is UNI-T's programmable switching DC power supply line, with 20 models spanning 40 V to 800 V output and 400 W to 2000 W. Every unit supports constant-voltage and constant-current operation, list sequencing, remote SCPI control, and multi-unit combining for higher voltage or current (the 800 V models combine in parallel only). The choice between models comes down to output voltage class first, then power level within that voltage class.

Decision 1: Choose Your Voltage Class
Pick the lowest voltage class that exceeds your maximum load voltage with reasonable headroom (typically 10–20%). Higher voltage classes trade max current at a given power rating.

Decision 2: Choose Your Power Level
Within each voltage class, four power levels — 400 W, 800 W, 1200 W, and 2000 W — cover everything from low-current cell-level testing through 200 A automotive battery validation. Auto-ranging output means a unit holds its full rated wattage from the point where its current limit is reached all the way up to its rated voltage, rather than only at a single V/I point.

Tip: Need more than a single chassis delivers? Parallel mode combines same-model units to sum output current. Series mode combines up to two same-model units to double the voltage ceiling — available on the 40 V through 250 V classes; the 800 V models are parallel-only.

Li-ion Cell / Small Pack Test
40 V covers 1S–10S Li-ion (up to ~42 V fully charged). 40 A or 80 A handles cell-level cycling and small pack characterization. List mode runs CC/CV charge profiles automatically.
48 V Battery / Telecom DC
80 V class with 40–60 A handles 48 V telecom rectifier replacement, e-bike packs, and 48 V automotive accessory testing. Programmable load profiles for endurance testing.
EV Traction Battery Test

FAQ
What does "auto-ranging" or "constant power" mean?
A traditional power supply is rated at one voltage and one current, and below that voltage the current ceiling becomes the limit on power. An auto-ranging supply like the UDP5000 holds its full rated wattage from the point where its current limit is reached up to its rated voltage. A 400 W / 40 V / 40 A unit delivers 400 W at 40 V × 10 A, at 20 V × 20 A, and at 10 V × 40 A — below 10 V the 40 A limit caps the available power.
Can I combine multiple UDP5000 units?
Yes. Same-model units combine in parallel to sum output current, and in series to raise the voltage ceiling. Series operation supports up to two units — so a pair of 250 V models reaches 500 V — and is not available on the 800 V models, which are parallel-only. One master unit controls the group over a CAN interconnect, and output balance between master and slave units is held within approximately 5% of rated value. Contact us for the maximum parallel group size in your voltage and power class.
What's the difference between switching and linear DC supplies?
Switching supplies (like UDP5000) are smaller, lighter, more efficient, and more programmable — ideal for production test, ATE, and any application where you need significant power per rack U. Linear supplies have lower output noise and faster transient response — better for low-noise analog work and very fast load steps. UDP5000 is switching.
Suitable for automated test systems?
Yes. Full SCPI command set over LAN and USB 2.0, with VXI-11, HiSLIP, and an embedded WebServer that runs in a browser without additional drivers. List mode supports up to 128 programmable steps, set from the front panel or imported over USB, with step times from 0.1 s to 99,999.9 s and cycle counts from 1 to 9,999 or infinite.
How is constant current handled?
UDP5000 supports both CV (constant voltage) and CC (constant current) operation with automatic crossover. List mode programs both modes with arbitrary timing for battery cycling and electronic-load-like profiles.
