UT-TR01 RF Demonstration Board
Overview
The UT-TR01 is an RF teaching and demonstration board that puts common RF building blocks on one board, each brought out to SMA connectors. It supports single-ended and differential experiments and is intended for university laboratories, engineering training and R&D verification.
Students can sweep a filter, measure an amplifier's gain, drive a mixer or check a coupler's port behaviour with the same bench instruments they will use in practice.
Key Features
- Mixer — RF and LO ports 2.5–7.5 GHz, IF port DC–3 GHz.
- Amplifier — 30 MHz–6 GHz, 22 dB typical gain at 1 GHz, powered over USB Type-C.
- Directional coupler — 2.5–3.5 GHz, with input, output, coupled and isolated ports.
- Balun — 4.5 MHz–3 GHz, for single-ended to differential conversion.
- Filters — 250 MHz low-pass and 3.3–3.8 GHz band-pass.
- Transmission lines — 50 Ω short and long through lines, 75 Ω and 100 Ω differential microstrip, and a 75 Ω to 100 Ω impedance transformation line.
UT-TR01 Details
Lab exercises the board supports
Swept-frequency response of the low-pass and band-pass filters; amplifier gain and bandwidth; mixer conversion between RF, LO and IF; coupler coupling and isolation; balun single-ended to differential conversion; and the effect of impedance steps on a transmission line.
Typical bench setup
Filter, coupler and line measurements need a swept source and receiver: a spectrum analyzer with a tracking generator, such as the UTS3084T+, or a vector network analyzer. Mixer and amplifier exercises add an RF signal generator, such as the USG3045M.
Applications
- University RF and microwave labs — hands-on circuits for RF design and communication-systems courses.
- Engineering training — a fixed, repeatable set of devices for instrument training.
- R&D verification — known reference blocks for checking a measurement setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the board need power?
Only the amplifier block, which is powered through its USB Type-C connector.
What connectors does it use?
Each block is brought out to standard SMA connectors.
