UNI-T UDP6731 360W 80V/15A Basic DC Switching Power Supply

Overview

The UDP6731 is a 360W single-channel programmable DC switching power supply delivering 0–80V at 0–15A in a compact desktop chassis. Fully digital control, RS-232 with SCPI command support, list and delayer programming, remote sense compensation, and OVP/OCP/OTP protection — the core feature set a service bench, maintenance shop, or production-test station needs from a programmable switching supply at this power class.

The UDP6700 series uses a wide-range output topology (3.0 power ratio) — voltage and current can combine flexibly within the rated 360W envelope, letting one supply replace several smaller fixed-range units. A 2.8-inch full-color LCD displays voltage, current, and power simultaneously; a numeric keypad with a rotary encoder lets you set values directly without scrolling. Standard alligator-clip test leads ship in the box.

Affordability meets precision: a programmable industrial DC supply, 1U-rack-mount form, 100-240 V universal input, RS-232 SCPI, and the UNI-T 3+2 warranty — at the price an industrial maintenance line actually buys at.

Key Features

  • 360W Programmable Switching Output (0–80V, 0–15A) — Fully digital control with 10 mV / 1 mA setting resolution and CV/CC operation.
  • Wide-Range Output (Power Ratio 3.0) — Voltage and current combine flexibly within the rated 360W envelope. One supply replaces several smaller fixed-range units.
  • RS-232 with SCPI — Programmable over the rear-panel RS-232 interface with full SCPI command support. Free PC software included for setup, control, and data logging.
  • List Mode & Delayer Function — Edit up to 48 voltage/current/time points for automated test profiles. Delayer function supports power-on/off sequencing for reliability test and automation workflows.
  • 600 Memory Groups (3 × 200 in M1/M2/M3) — Three named memory banks of 200 presets each. Save complete output configurations for one-button recall — generous storage for benches that test many different DUTs.
  • Remote Sense Compensation — S+/S− terminals connect directly to the load to compensate for voltage drop in long lead wires. The displayed voltage is the load voltage, not the terminal voltage.
  • OVP / OCP / OTP Protection — Over-voltage and over-current thresholds set via long-press on the V/A keys. Over-temperature shutdown protects the supply at high ambient or extended full-load operation.
  • 2.8-inch Full-Color LCD — Voltage, current, and power displayed simultaneously. Customizable display layout and brightness.
  • Software Calibration + Intelligent Fan Control — Field-calibrate the supply via the included software. Fan speed scales with internal temperature for quieter operation at light loads.

80 Volts at 15 Amps — Bench Power for Higher-Voltage Work

360W single-channel programmable DC switching at 80V bench supply built for the workloads where the lower-current siblings in the family run short. 80V capability suits 48V/60V/80V automotive electronics, motor drive front-ends, solar inverter input stages, and SiC/GaN bus-voltage characterization where the lower-voltage siblings in the family run short.

For higher-voltage bench work specifically, two design points matter: remote sense and protection thresholds. Remote sense (S+/S− terminals on the rear panel) compensates for IR drop on the longer leads typical of higher-voltage prototype work. OVP and OCP thresholds set independently via long-press on V/A keys — useful when the supply is sourcing close to a DUT's rated input range and a tight protection envelope matters.

Applications

Higher-Voltage Power Electronics Bench

80V output suits 48V mild-hybrid automotive electronics, 60V e-bike and light-EV powertrains, solar inverter input-stage testing, and the rising tier of higher-voltage industrial DC bus work. SCPI over RS-232 scripts test sequences; remote sense compensates for IR drop on the longer test leads typical of high-voltage prototype work.

Wide-Bandgap Device Characterization

For SiC and GaN device-level work below the 100V class, the 0–80V range covers gate-drive supply rails, low-voltage bus emulation, and accessory-circuit power for the broader test rig. Pair with a higher-current low-voltage supply (UDP6730) for full-bench bipolar coverage.

Industrial Maintenance — Higher-Voltage DC Equipment

Programmable bench supply for service work on 48V industrial battery systems, 60V telecom DC plants, 80V forklift battery emulation, and other higher-voltage industrial DC equipment. RS-232 SCPI integrates into existing test fixtures.

R&D Bench & Component Evaluation

15A at 80V handles higher-voltage prototypes that 60V/5A or 60V/8A siblings can't reach. CV/CC operation handles unknown loads safely; OVP/OCP/OTP protect prototypes during fault investigation. Wide-range output flexibility within the 360W envelope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the UDP6731 have USB?

No. The UDP6731's data interface is RS-232 only. SCPI command support is provided over the RS-232 port; free PC software is included that handles the host-side connection. If your workflow specifically needs USB or LAN, the UDP6900B series adds USB, RS-485, LAN with web control, plus all the UDP6700 features.

What's the difference between the UDP6730 and the UDP6731?

V/I balance. UDP6731: 80V/15A/360W (higher voltage, lower current — for 48V/60V/80V automotive, telecom DC, higher-voltage power-electronics). UDP6730: 40V/30A/360W (high-current, lower voltage — for motor drive, battery testing). Same 360W envelope, different positioning in the V/I plane.

What is "wide-range output" / "power ratio 3.0"?

The supply's voltage and current can combine flexibly within the rated 360W envelope. The 3.0 ratio means the maximum voltage × maximum current is 3× the rated power, giving you flexibility to handle many DUTs from a single supply instead of needing several with fixed V/I ranges.

What's the difference between the UDP6700 and UDP6900B series?

The UDP6900B series is the next tier up. It adds auto-range output, slope control (controlled rise/fall), built-in DVM (digital voltmeter for a second measurement point), web remote control over LAN, RS-485 for multi-machine networking, USB Device, Modbus RTU support, and external analog control. The UDP6700 series provides the core CV/CC + list-mode + remote-compensation feature set with RS-232 SCPI at a lower price.

What's included with the UDP6731?

The UDP6731 ships with the instrument, power cord conforming to the destination country, alligator-clip test leads, and UNI-T's 3+2 warranty (3 years standard plus 2 additional years with free registration — 5 years total). Ships from authorized US dealer.
