MSO2204X | 200 MHz 4-Channel Mixed Signal Oscilloscope
Overview
The MSO2204X is a 200 MHz, four-channel mixed-signal oscilloscope. With 5 GSa/s real-time sample rate, 100 Mpts of memory depth, 16 logic-analyzer channels (with the optional UT-M15 probe pod), and Ultra Phosphor 3.0 waveform mapping at up to 2,000,000 wfms/s in Sequential Mode, the MSO2204X integrates nine bench instruments into one 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch footprint — oscilloscope, logic analyzer, AWG, spectrum analyzer, DVM, frequency counter, protocol analyzer, Bode plot, and power analyzer.
For mainstream R&D validation at 200 MHz, four-channel mixed-signal debug across faster MCU and FPGA silicon, and consolidation-tier lab benches that need spectrum, AWG, and protocol decode alongside scope acquisition, the MSO2204X is the mid SKU in the MSO2000X line — bridging bandwidth between the 100 MHz entry and the 300 MHz top. Same 5 GSa/s sample rate and 100 Mpts memory as the rest of the family; same nine-instrument integration; 200 MHz of analog headroom fits the rise-time measurements that 100 MHz starts to round.
Nine instruments in one: scope, logic analyzer, AWG, spectrum analyzer, DVM, frequency counter, protocol analyzer, Bode plot, power analyzer.

Detailed Features
Nine Instruments in One
The MSO2000X platform integrates nine instrument functions into one bench unit: digital storage oscilloscope, 16-channel logic analyzer (with the optional UT-M15 probe pod), 50 MHz dual-channel function and arbitrary waveform generator (optional), 2.5 GHz spectrum analyzer (FFT up to 4 Mpts), 4-digit digital voltmeter, 7-digit hardware frequency counter, multi-protocol serial-bus analyzer, Bode plot analyzer (optional, paired with the AWG for closed-loop sweep), and power-electronics analyzer (optional). For lab benches consolidating across protocol decode, RF spectral analysis, and four-channel scope work in the same session, the integration eliminates the cable-swap-and-instrument-handoff cycle that breaks engineering flow on multi-instrument bench setups.
Nine instruments integrated: scope, logic analyzer, AWG, spectrum analyzer, DVM, frequency counter, protocol analyzer, Bode plot, power analyzer.
High-Speed Acquisition — 5 GSa/s, 100 Mpts
The 5 GSa/s real-time sample rate (interleave mode) and 100 Mpts of acquisition memory hold full waveform fidelity across the 200 MHz analog bandwidth. Standard capture rate runs up to 500,000 wfms/s; in Sequential Mode — the segmented-memory acquisition mode that conditions captures on a trigger event — capture rate climbs to 2,000,000 wfms/s, holding up to 125,000 frames of uninterrupted hardware real-time waveform recording for post-capture replay and analysis.
ERES (enhanced resolution) extends effective vertical resolution from the 8-bit native ADC up to 12-bit when bandwidth headroom is available — useful for low-amplitude work where quantization noise would otherwise obscure detail on switching ripple, sensor outputs, or jitter analysis.
Up to 500,000 wfms/s standard capture rate; 2,000,000 wfms/s in Sequential Mode.
Ultra Phosphor 3.0 — 256-Level Grayscale Persistence
Ultra Phosphor 3.0 is UNI-T’s third-generation waveform-mapping architecture, combining parallel FPGA acquisition with 256-level grayscale intensity grading. Throughput is five to ten times higher than the previous-generation pipeline, and acquisition dead time drops below 1 µs — the scope captures 1.17 ns fast-edge signals at 2,000,000 events per second in Sequential Mode without missing the rare-event bracket between redraws. The 256-level intensity grading shows signal frequency-of-occurrence directly: frequent waveforms appear brighter, infrequent ones dimmer, making it intuitive to distinguish normal behavior from intermittent faults during long bench captures.
Ultra Phosphor 3.0: 256 grayscale levels, parallel FPGA mapping, dead time below 1 µs.
Built-In Spectrum Analyzer — FFT to 4 Mpts
The standard enhanced-FFT spectrum analyzer covers 0 Hz to 2.5 GHz with up to 4 Mpts of FFT length, four-channel signal analysis, four trace types (Normal, Average, Max Hold, Min Hold), and four detection modes. Marker functions cover Auto, Manual, and Threshold with a marker-point list, plus a waterfall display for tracking spectral activity over time. Use it to identify harmonics, characterize EMI signatures during pre-compliance sweeps, verify clock-signal purity on embedded designs, or analyze modulated signals — without paying for a separate spectrum analyzer.
Standard enhanced FFT spectrum analyzer: 0 Hz to 2.5 GHz, 4 Mpts FFT, four traces and four detections.
Protocol Analysis — 9 Bus Types Across Four Domains
The MSO2000X covers nine protocol types across four bus domains: computer serial (RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI — standard), automotive serial (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay — optional), automotive sensor (SENT — optional), and audio (I²S, Left-Justified, Right-Justified, TDM — optional). Triggering and decoding are integrated: trigger on a frame error, an identifier match, a CRC failure, or a missing-ack condition, and the decode displays inline with the captured waveform. Up to four simultaneous decodes plus parallel-bus decoding (up to 18 bits, mixed analog and digital channels) cover most embedded-systems and automotive bus-validation workflows in one instrument.
9 protocol types: computer (RS-232/UART, I²C, SPI), automotive (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, FlexRay), automotive sensor (SENT), audio (I²S/LJ/RJ/TDM).
50 MHz Dual-Channel AWG with Bode Plot (Optional)
The optional MSO2000X-AWG package adds a 50 MHz dual-channel function and arbitrary waveform generator with 16-bit vertical resolution and 250 MSa/s sample rate, plus the Bode plot analyzer for frequency-response, loop-stability, filter, and amplifier characterization. Built-in waveforms include sine, square, pulse, ramp, arbitrary, noise, and DC, with 200 standard arbitrary waveforms (Sinc, ExpRise, ExpFall, Cardiac, Gauss, Lorentz, HaverSine, and others). AM, FM, ASK, FSK, and sweep modulation are supported, and on-screen oscilloscope captures can be loaded directly into the AWG for stimulus-response replay.
Optional MSO2000X-AWG: 50 MHz dual-channel arbitrary waveform generator, 16-bit, 250 MSa/s, with Bode plot analyzer included.
Power Analysis (Optional) — Five Measurement Types
For switching-power-supply validation at moderate frequencies and load-step transient analysis on point-of-load converters, the optional power-analysis package adds power quality, harmonic analysis, surge-current characterization, ripple analysis, and loop analysis to the four-channel acquisition path. The same scope that captures the gate-drive waveform also computes the switching loss across the cycle, replacing a separate power analyzer for early-stage characterization on switching converters and point-of-load designs.
Optional MSO2000X-PWR: power quality, harmonic analysis, surge current, ripple analysis, loop analysis.
Zone Triggering — Rectangle-Drawn Trigger Conditions
Zone triggering isolates an occasional anomaly by trigger condition rather than waveform stability. Draw a rectangle on the display, set Must Intersect or Must Not Intersect, and the scope triggers when the waveform meets the spatial condition — two zones supported, sourced from any of CH1 through CH4. Combined with the eleven trigger types (edge, pulse width, ramp, runt pulse, over-amplitude pulse, delay, timeout, duration, setup & hold, Nth edge, code pattern), the zone trigger turns rare-event hunting into a defined acquisition condition rather than a wait-and-watch exercise.
Zone triggering: draw two rectangles on the display, set Must Intersect or Must Not Intersect.
56 Automated Measurements with Histogram and Trend Statistics
The MSO2000X provides 56 automated measurement parameters on the analog channels — voltage, time, frequency, statistical, and burst measurements — with up to 27 measurements displayed simultaneously and per-channel parameter snapshots showing 39 single-channel measurements at once. Measurement statistics include mean, maximum, minimum, standard deviation, count, tendency chart, and bar chart (histogram) views. The histogram surfaces parameter distribution visually; the tendency chart shows parameter drift over time — useful for jitter analysis, long-capture characterization, and pass/fail evidence reports.
Fast Fuzzy Autoset — Sub-Second All-Channel Setup
The MSO2000X uses a fuzzy-logic autoset algorithm built around the 7-digit hardware frequency counter and multi-channel parallel processing. All-channel autoset completes in under 1.5 seconds; single-channel autoset completes in under 1 second — useful on production-line spot-check work and education-track lab benches with frequent setup changes.
10.1-Inch Capacitive Multi-Touch UI
The 10.1-inch 1280×800 HD capacitive multi-touch display supports the standard touch gestures (click, slide, zoom, edit, drag) for direct waveform manipulation, plus rectangle-draw for zone triggering. Multi-window layout lets multiple display panels (waveform, FFT, decode list, measurement table) be dragged and resized independently. Traditional knob-and-key controls remain for engineers who prefer them, and external mouse and keyboard input is supported via USB. HDMI output mirrors the display to an external monitor or projector — useful for instructor-led demonstrations and engineering team reviews.
10.1-inch 1280×800 capacitive multi-touch display with multi-window layout and freely-draggable windows.
Connectivity, SCPI, and WebServer Remote Control
USB 3.0 Host (one front, two rear), USB 3.0 Device (rear), LAN (10/100/1000 BASE-T, VXI-11), HDMI display output, two front-panel Gen Out connectors (paired with the optional AWG), 10 MHz reference In/Out, and AUX Out (Trig Out / Pass-Fail / DVM). The instrument supports the full SCPI command set, and the built-in WebServer provides browser-based remote control from PC or mobile.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between standard capture rate and Sequential Mode capture rate?
Standard capture rate (500,000 wfms/s) is the rate at which the MSO2204X acquires waveforms during continuous real-time operation. Sequential Mode (2,000,000 wfms/s) uses segmented memory to condition captures on a trigger event, holding up to 125,000 frames of triggered acquisitions for post-capture replay. Use standard mode for general waveform observation; use Sequential Mode for rare-event hunting where the trigger condition is well-defined and the captures-per-second matter.
Is the MSO2204X a 12-bit oscilloscope?
No. The MSO2204X has an 8-bit native ADC with up to 12-bit effective resolution via ERES (enhanced resolution) when bandwidth headroom is available. For native 12-bit acquisition at full bandwidth and full sample rate, see UNI-T’s HD-series oscilloscopes (UPO1000HD, UPO2000HD, MSO1000HD, MSO3000HD, MSO5000HD, MSO8000HD), which use the R12™ native 12-bit ADC architecture.
Are the 16 digital channels included?
The 16-digital-channel logic-analyzer front end is built into the chassis, but using it requires the optional UT-M15 probe pod. Without the UT-M15, the MSO2204X operates as a 4-channel digital storage oscilloscope.
What’s included with the AWG option?
The MSO2000X-AWG package adds a 50 MHz dual-channel function and arbitrary waveform generator with 16-bit vertical resolution, 250 MSa/s sample rate, and 200 built-in arbitrary waveforms. The Bode plot analyzer is included with the AWG package — it uses the AWG for stimulus and the scope channels for response measurement.
What does the 3+2 warranty cover?
Three years of standard warranty coverage, plus two additional years of coverage when the product is registered — five years total when registered.
See more in the MSO2000X collection, or browse all UNI-T digital oscilloscopes.
