MSO/UPO2000-CAN FD Auto serial bus trigger and analysis-CAN-FD
Overview
The MSO/UPO2000-CAN adds CAN-FD (Controller Area Network with Flexible Data Rate) protocol triggering, decoding, and search to your MSO/UPO2000 Series oscilloscope. CAN-FD bus traffic appears as decoded frames overlaid on the analog waveform — protocol data and electrical signals visible simultaneously.
CAN-FD supports payloads up to 64 bytes at up to 8 Mbit/s (vs. classic CAN's 8-byte/1 Mbit/s limit). Standard in vehicles from 2020+, this decode also handles classic CAN frames on the same bus.
Key Features
- Protocol-Aware Triggering — Trigger on CAN-FD conditions — frame ID, data content, error frames, or bit rate switch events.
- Real-Time Frame Decoding — Decoded CAN-FD frames display on the waveform trace in real time for protocol-electrical correlation.
- Deep Memory Protocol Search — Search captured records for specific message IDs, data patterns, or error conditions.
- Error Detection — Identifies CRC, form, stuff, and acknowledge errors for diagnosing intermittent failures.
- Software License Activation — License key applied through the instrument menu. No hardware changes, no downtime — enter the key and start decoding.
When You Need This
ECU Development
Trigger on your ECU's arbitration ID to capture CAN-FD messages and verify timing, payload, and acknowledge behavior.
Intermittent Bus Errors
Use error frame triggering to capture CAN-FD errors and examine the analog waveform to find electrical vs. protocol root causes.
Compatible Instruments
This option is compatible with all MSO/UPO2000 Series oscilloscopes (MSO/UPO2102, 2104, 2202, 2204 and -S variants).

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need this if I already have classic CAN?
Yes — CAN and CAN-FD are separate protocols. CAN-FD decode also handles classic CAN frames on the same bus.
Should I buy this individually or get a bundle?
If you only need CAN-FD, the individual license at $219 is the most economical. The AUTO bundle ($359) adds multiple automotive protocols at a discount. The BND bundle ($595) includes every protocol at the deepest discount.
How is this option activated?
You receive a license key after purchase. Enter the key in the instrument's menu under System → Options → Install. The capability is available immediately — no reboot, no hardware modification, no factory service required.
Is the license permanent or subscription-based?
All UNI-T software option licenses are permanent, one-time purchases. Once activated, the option remains available for the life of the instrument. No annual renewals or subscription fees.
