UNI-T UTG2082X Advanced-Series Arbitrary Waveform Generator
Overview
The UNI-T UTG2082X is a two-channel arbitrary waveform generator delivering 80 MHz sine wave output with 1.25 GSa/s sampling, 16-bit vertical resolution, and 64 Mpts waveform memory. The high sample rate relative to maximum frequency gives the UTG2082X excellent waveform fidelity—over 20 sample points per cycle at 80 MHz—producing cleaner output with lower harmonic distortion than generators that run closer to their Nyquist limits.
The UTG2000X platform includes 15 modulation types (AM, FM, PM, PWM, ASK, FSK, 3FSK, 4FSK, PSK, BPSK, QPSK, OSK, DSB-AM, SUM, QAM), expression-based waveform synthesis, harmonic generation, PRBS output, channel coupling and tracking, channel merge (SUM and stacking), and a 7-digit hardware frequency counter (100 mHz–200 MHz). Linear, logarithmic, and step sweep modes, plus burst output, are all standard. The 4.3-inch touchscreen interface with SCPI programmability over USB and LAN makes the UTG2082X suitable for both benchtop use and automated test integration.

Key Features
- 80 MHz Sine / 40 MHz Square & Pulse — High-quality output with less than 0.07% total harmonic distortion (DC–20 kHz, 1 Vpp). Pulse output with minimum 8 ns width and 5 ns edge time handles fast digital timing applications.
- 1.25 GSa/s Sampling with 16-Bit Resolution — Industry-leading sample rate for a two-channel generator in this class. High oversampling ratio produces cleaner signals at all frequencies with lower quantization noise and spurious content.
- 64 Mpts Arbitrary Waveform Memory — Point-by-point output at up to 64 million points reproduces complex captured waveforms without interpolation artifacts. 200+ built-in waveforms plus USB import from free PC software.
- 15 Modulation Types — Complete analog and digital modulation coverage: AM, FM, PM, PWM, ASK, FSK, 3FSK, 4FSK, PSK, BPSK, QPSK, OSK, DSB-AM, SUM, and QAM. Internal and external modulation sources supported.
- Expression Output — Define waveforms mathematically as Vout = f(x) using operators, functions, and free variables. Synthesize complex signals from equations without creating arbitrary waveform files.
- Channel Coupling, Tracking & Merge — Coupling synchronizes parameters across channels. Tracking controls both channels from a single set of parameters for deviation or matched signals. Merge combines channels via SUM or stacking for multi-tone and adjustable-SNR output.
- Hardware Frequency Counter — 7-digit, 100 mHz to 200 MHz measurement via rear-panel input. Verify external signals without a separate counter instrument.
- Sweep, Burst & PRBS — Linear, logarithmic, and step sweep modes. N-cycle, gated, and infinite burst types. Built-in PRBS patterns for jitter and BER testing.
1.25 GSa/s: High Oversampling for Cleaner Signals
The UTG2000X's 1.25 GSa/s sample rate is significantly higher than what's needed to reproduce signals at 80 MHz. This oversampling headroom isn't wasted—it directly translates to cleaner output signals with lower spurious content, reduced quantization artifacts, and better waveform fidelity across all output modes. Where a generator running at 2× or 4× the output frequency produces noticeable staircase artifacts and requires aggressive output filtering, the UTG2000X's high oversampling ratio produces smoother waveforms before the output filter, resulting in lower THD and better spectral purity.
The 64 Mpts waveform memory complements the high sample rate. At full 1.25 GSa/s, 64 Mpts stores over 51 ms of non-repeating waveform data. For captured signal replay—communications bursts, power transients, sensor output sequences—this means you can reproduce complete real-world events at full time resolution without truncation.

Applications
Analog & Mixed-Signal Testing
Low THD output and 16-bit resolution make the UTG2082X well-suited for ADC/DAC characterization, filter response measurement, and amplifier distortion testing. Expression output creates mathematically defined test signals for linearity and dynamic range analysis.
Communications Protocol Development
15 modulation types generate realistic test signals for wireless protocol work. FSK for Bluetooth and sub-GHz ISM devices, PSK/QPSK for satellite systems, QAM for broadband links. Channel merge creates multi-tone signals for intermodulation testing.
Sensor & Transducer Simulation
Deep arbitrary memory replays captured sensor waveforms at full fidelity. Simulate accelerometer outputs, pressure transients, and biomedical signals. Channel coupling generates matched differential signals for bridge circuit testing.
Education & Research
The 4.3-inch touchscreen interface, 200+ built-in waveforms, and expression-based synthesis make the UTG2082X effective for university labs. SCPI programmability supports automated measurement exercises and research data collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the UTG2000X and UTG2000B?
The UTG2000X offers higher sample rate (1.25 GSa/s vs 320 MSa/s), deeper waveform memory (64 Mpts vs 16 Mpts), more modulation types (15 vs 13), a touchscreen interface, expression output, PRBS generation, and a hardware frequency counter. The UTG2000B provides the same 16-bit resolution and core DDS engine at a lower price for applications where sample rate headroom and deep memory aren't critical.
Can the UTG2082X be used in automated test systems?
Yes. The UTG2082X supports SCPI commands over USB Host/Device and LAN interfaces. Rear-panel connections include 10 MHz external reference input/output, external analog modulation input, external modulation/trigger output, and sync output for multi-instrument synchronization.
What's included with the UTG2082X?
The UTG2082X ships with the instrument, power cable, BNC cables, USB cable, and UNI-T's 3+2 warranty (3 years standard plus 2 additional years with free registration—5 years total). Both channels are fully active. PC waveform editing software, user manual, and programming guide are available from the UNI-T website.
