DOCUMENTATION

Buying a UNI-T thermal camera? Already own one? Looking to get the most out of your investment?

Become a Level 1 Thermographer through our partnership with The Snell Group.

Choose between live, in-person training at one of these locations, online training with an instructor or go-at-your-own-pace with pre-recorded sessions.

Take part in Snell’s Level 1 course to learn the theory and applications of infrared thermography for preventive maintenance, quality assurance, condition monitoring, and nondestructive testing of materials.

This 32-hour class focuses on qualitative thermography to collect data using proven inspection procedures. Upon completion, you will be able to capture clear thermograms and make basic inferences and diagnoses.

The Level 1 curriculum includes infrared theory, heat transfer concepts, operation of thermal imaging equipment, and specific recommendations for producing quality thermal images that are clear, concise, and easy to interpret. You will be challenged daily with hands-on demonstrations, experiments, and inspections.

You are not required to own a thermal imager to attend this training, but are encouraged to bring one if you can, as there are a number of hands-on learning opportunities! This course fully meets the educational requirements for certification in accordance with ASNT Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A, as defined by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing.

Course Topics Include:

  • Electrical distribution systems
  • Mechanical systems
  • Steam systems
  • Refractories
  • Underground piping
  • Active thermography
  • Building envelopes
  • Low-slope roofs
  • Nondestructive testing of materials

Curriculum:

  • Introduction, course overview
  • Keynote presentation: Think Thermally!®
  • Introduction to using your thermal imager
  • Hands-on equipment use: basic camera adjustment skills
  • Imaging equipment: how imagers work, resolution, sensitivity, optimizing the image
  • Basic heat transfer theory
  • Heat vs. temperature
  • Thermal capacitance
  • Conduction
  • Convection
  • Radiation
  • State change
  • Basics of radiometric temperature measurements
  • Overview of standards and practices
  • Electrical systems inspections: safety, patterns, conditions
  • Mechanical inspections: motors, rotating equipment, fluid flow, steam traps, refractory
  • Building diagnostics: conduction, air leakage, conditions for inspections
  • Roof inspections: safety, conditions, conducting an inspection, patterns, aerial
  • Hands on equipment use: refining diagnostic skills
