UNI-T USG3000-PK Power Meter Option for USG3000 Series RF Signal Generators

Overview

The USG3000-PK Power Meter option is a software upgrade for the USG3000 series RF signal generators, compatible with both the USG3000M (Analog) and USG3000V (Digital Vector) series. This option enables your USG3000 generator to interface with an external USB power sensor, providing precise RF power measurement, output power calibration, and line loss compensation directly through the generator's user interface. By connecting your own compatible power sensor to the front panel USB port, you can ensure that the exact power level reaches your device under test.

Key Features

  • Accurate Power Measurement: Directly measure RF power at the device under test using your own USB power sensor
  • Power Output Control: Automatically adjust generator output to achieve desired power at the test point
  • Line Loss Calibration: Compensate for cable and component losses between generator and test point
  • Seamless Integration: Connect a compatible USB power sensor to the front panel USB port for plug-and-play operation
  • Easy Operation: Intuitive controls through the signal generator's user interface

Technical Specifications

Parameter Specification
Frequency Range 10 MHz to 6.5 GHz
Power Measurement Range -30 dBm to +20 dBm (typical)
Power Measurement Accuracy ±0.5 dB (typical)
Return Loss > 15 dB (typical)
Sensor Interface USB (connects to front panel USB port)

Note: Specifications are dependent on the power sensor used. Values shown are typical when used with a compatible USB power sensor.

Application Examples

Production Testing

Enhance manufacturing test efficiency with precise power control:

  • Ensure consistent power levels reach each device under test
  • Automatically adjust for test fixture variations between test stations
  • Compensate for cable losses without manual calculations
  • Maintain measurement accuracy throughout extended production runs

RF Component Characterization

Improve measurement accuracy when testing RF components:

  • Measure gain/loss of amplifiers and filters at precise input levels
  • Ensure exact power levels for component stress testing
  • Automatically adjust power to characterize components across their operating range
  • Compensate for test setup variations when measuring multiple components

Antenna Testing

Ensure accurate power delivery in antenna measurements:

  • Compensate for long cable runs to antennas in test chambers
  • Verify actual power delivered to antenna feed points
  • Maintain consistent power levels during frequency sweeps
  • Calibrate out frequency-dependent cable losses

Research and Education

Support accurate laboratory work and educational demonstrations:

  • Demonstrate the effects of cable losses in RF systems
  • Verify theoretical calculations with practical measurements
  • Provide students with hands-on experience in power measurement techniques
  • Ensure experimental repeatability through precise power control

Compatible USG3000 Series Models

The USG3000-PK power meter option works with all models in the USG3000 series, including both the Analog (M-series) and Digital Vector (V-series) generators:

USG3000M Analog Series

  • USG3045M (9 kHz to 4.5 GHz)
  • USG3045M-P (9 kHz to 4.5 GHz with mechanical attenuator)
  • USG3065M (9 kHz to 6.5 GHz)
  • USG3065M-P (9 kHz to 6.5 GHz with mechanical attenuator)

USG3000V Digital Vector Series

  • USG3045V (9 kHz to 4.5 GHz)
  • USG3045V-P (9 kHz to 4.5 GHz with mechanical attenuator)
  • USG3065V (9 kHz to 6.5 GHz)
  • USG3065V-P (9 kHz to 6.5 GHz with mechanical attenuator)

Once a compatible USB power sensor is connected, power meter functions are seamlessly integrated into the generator's user interface, with dedicated menus for measurement, calibration, and power control functions.

Key Advantages in RF Testing Workflows

  • Eliminate Calculation Errors: Automatically compensate for losses without manual calculations
  • Improve Test Repeatability: Ensure the same power reaches the DUT across multiple test runs
  • Reduce Setup Time: Quick calibration of test setups without additional external equipment beyond your power sensor
  • Enhance Measurement Confidence: Verify actual power at the test point rather than relying on calculated values
  • Simplify Complex Measurements: Automatically maintain set power levels during frequency sweeps
  • Leverage Existing Equipment: Use your own compatible USB power sensor — no need to purchase a dedicated sensor

Installation

The USG3000-PK option is enabled through a license file installation procedure that can be performed by the user. No hardware modification is required.
