UNI-T UDP6942B DC Switching Power Supply

Overview

The UDP6942B is a 360W programmable DC switching supply at 60V/15A β€” sized for low-voltage motor drive testing, inverter input-stage qualification, and DC-DC converter development where the 5A and 10A models in the family run short. Auto-range gives flexible V/I combinations within the rated 360W envelope.

Full programmable interface set: USB Device, USB Host, RS-232, RS-485, LAN with web control, and external analog I/O β€” with SCPI, Multi-SCPI, and Modbus RTU command support. Built-in 4Β½-digit DVM monitors a second voltage point on the DUT without an external instrument. Slope control configures rise/fall rates independently in voltage-slope (VSR) and current-slope (ISR) modes for soft start/stop. Remote sense (S+/Sβˆ’) compensates for IR drop on the test leads. List mode and delayer functions program up to 512 voltage/current/time groups, stored to internal Flash or USB.

Remote Sense

To avoid voltage drops caused by long wires connecting to the load, remote testing allows measurements to be made directly on the terminals of the object to be measured to improve measurement accuracy. S+ and S- are the remote measurement terminals, and + and - are the output positive and negative terminals. When using the remote measurement function, it is necessary to connect a pair of driver wires from the rear panel + and - terminals to the device to be tested, and lead S+, S- to connect to the object to be tested. Please refer to the user manual for details.

Over-Voltage/Over-Current Protection (OVP/OCP)

The UNI-T UDP6900 series includes built-in over-voltage (OVP) and over-current (OCP) protection. Users can set the protection thresholds via the front panel keys. When the set limit is exceeded, the output is automatically shut off, and an alert is displayed on the LCD screen to ensure safety.

List Output and Delay Function

The series offers both list and delay functions, allowing users to define and execute up to 512 groups of output parameters (voltage, current, and time) or switch sequences. Users can manually change parameter groups or use templates for batch settings. These functions support both internal Flash storage and external USB storage, with files saved in (.lst.csv) and (.dly.csv) formats for easy editing on a computer.

Slope Mode Options

The UNI-T UDP6900 series offers three slope modes for enhanced control: Normal, Voltage Slope (VSR), and Current Slope (ISR). In Normal mode, the voltage and current values adjust directly to the set values without the ability to configure slope parameters. In VSR mode, the voltage rises and falls according to set slope parameters, while in ISR mode, the current adjusts step by step. This allows for gradual transitions in voltage or current to meet specific testing requirements.

Auto Range Functionality

This series supports flexible combinations of voltage and current under fixed power. It can handle both high-voltage/low-current and high-current/low-voltage tests, with automatic range switching between voltage and current outputs. This is controlled by limiting the overall power output, making it ideal for a variety of testing needs.

Multiple Main Menu Options

The main menu includes functions such as monitoring, system settings, user groups, output settings, and language options. The monitor function displays real-time voltage, current, power, and DVM readings, with alarms for each channel if conditions deviate from set parameters. System settings allow configuration of backlight, sound, communication protocols, and more.

Applications

Motor Drive Bench (15A Class)

15 A at 60 V handles 12V/24V/48V brushless motor controller testing, low-voltage inverter input-stage characterization, and DC-DC converter dev where 5A and 10A models run short. Slope control prevents inrush damage to motor drivers during start-up testing.

Battery Charging & Test

Programmable CC/CV profiles simulate charging curves; list mode runs multi-step charge/discharge sequences for battery characterization. 15A current capability matches the charge rates of e-bike and small-EV battery packs.

Power Electronics Test Bench

15A at 60V suits gate-driver supplies, low-voltage point-of-load testing, and the bench currents that smaller models can't deliver. Auto-range gives flexible V/I combinations within the 360W envelope.

Small-Team Test Lab

Full SCPI over USB, RS-232, RS-485, and LAN integrates into VISA-based test frameworks. Multi-machine RS-485 supports synchronized series/parallel multi-unit configurations. Web control via browser for remote monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does auto-range mean?

Auto-range means the supply delivers any voltage/current combination within the rated 360W envelope. The UDP6942B can output 60V at reduced current or 15A at reduced voltage β€” the power limit is the constraint, not fixed V/I maximums independently.

What's the difference between the UDP6700 and UDP6900B series?

UDP6900B is the higher-tier programmable family. It adds auto-range output, slope control, built-in DVM, web control over LAN, RS-485 for multi-machine networking, USB Device, Modbus RTU, and external analog control. UDP6700 provides the core CV/CC + list-mode + remote-compensation feature set with RS-232 SCPI at a lower price.

Can I connect multiple UDP6900B units for higher power?

Yes. Multi-machine communication via RS-485 enables master/slave configurations β€” connect units in series for higher voltage or parallel for higher current, controlled from a single master or via SCPI commands.

What's included with the UDP6942B?

The UDP6942B ships with the instrument, power cable, and UNI-T's 3+2 warranty (3 years standard plus 2 additional years with free registration β€” 5 years total). Test leads and sense leads available separately.

Warranty

This instrument is backed by UNI-T's 3+2 Year Warranty β€” 3 years of standard coverage, plus 2 additional years free when you register your product. That's 5 years of total protection at no extra cost.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use conditions. UNI-T instruments are built for professional daily use, and our warranty reflects that commitment to long-term reliability.
